Ex-Cubs pitcher Sergio Mitre convicted of murdering infant

Ex-Cub Sergio Mitre founded guilty of killing baby initially appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Former Cubs pitcher Sergio Mitre was founded guilty in Mexico today for the murder of the 22-month-old child of his then-girlfriend.

Mitre, who pitched for the Cubs from 2003-05, was sentenced to 50 years in jail for the July 2020 attack.

According to a report from Mexican publication Proceso, an autopsy exposed the baby passed away as an outcome of hypovolemic shock — extreme loss of body fluid — and fracture in the base of the skull. She was hurried to the medical facility, where she passed away of her injuries.

Mitre was formerly implicated of rape and domestic violence.

Mitre, a Los Angeles native, was prepared by the Cubs out of San Diego City College in the seventh round in 2001. He invested 8 seasons in the major leagues in a profession ending in 2011.
