Ja Morant addresses media for first time following suspension, says self-improvement is 'ongoing process'

Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant consulted with media members for the very first time on Tuesday following his eight-game suspension for conduct destructive to the league. While he was far from the group, Morant hung out at a therapy program in Florida in order to discover how to much better handle tension, and despite the fact that he’s set to return to company on the court, he made it clear that his self-improvement journey is far from over.

“Obviously took that time to better myself, get in a better space mentally,” Morant stated, by means of ESPN. “It’s an ongoing process, a continued process for me. Obviously, I’ve been there for two weeks, but that doesn’t mean I’m completely better. So that’s an ongoing process for me that I’ve still been continuing since I’ve come out.

“Obviously, I’ve made errors in the past that trigger a great deal of unfavorable attention — not just to me, however my household too, my group, the company — and I’m totally sorry for that,” he added “So my task now is, like I stated, to be more accountable, more smarter, and do not trigger any of that no more.”

During his session with the media, Morant emphasized that he entered the counseling program to find ways to cope with stress and anxiety, not because of any substance abuse issue.

“I do not have an alcohol issue, never ever had an alcohol issue,” Morant said. “I went [to Florida] for counseling to discover how to handle tension, deal with tension in a favorable method rather of methods I’ve attempted to handle it prior to that triggered me to make errors.”

Moving forward, Morant states he prepares to keep his complete concentrate on the flooring, where the Grizzlies presently sit 2nd in the Western Conference standings with simply a couple of weeks staying in the routine season. They have a possibility to make a genuine run in the postseason, however that clearly begins with Morant being best psychologically and physically.

Having the video game removed from him — albeit for a short amount of time — troubled Morant, who measured up to his previous errors and promised to be much better.

“Obviously, I take responsibility for decisions I’ve made that pretty much hurt me to the core,” Morant stated. “Like I said, it not only affected me, but it affected everyone around me — my family, this organization, my teammates — and caused me not to be out there on the floor. Which, one thing I love to do the most is play basketball. So it’s a lot, but like I said before, it’s an ongoing process with everything I’ve been doing the past two weeks, and I’m going to continue to do that to get through everything I need to be healthy.”

Morant is anticipated to go back to video game action today, possibly versus the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night. When he does, he’ll have the chance to create headings for the best factors once again. Hopefully, he’ll have the ability to keep it that method.
