Things have not been straightforward for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season. A disappointing 10-10 begin has adopted the group’s struggles to efficiently combine offseason acquisition Rudy Gobert, and issues bought even worse Monday because the Timberwolves battled the Washington Wizards. Trailing within the third quarter, Karl-Anthony Towns crumpled to the ground with an obvious non-contact damage as he was working again up the court docket following a made jumper by Kyle Kuzma. He was helped off of the court docket and didn’t put any strain on his leg as he exited into the locker room.

Shortly thereafter, the Timberwolves dominated Towns out for the rest of the sport with what they’re calling a calf pressure. Minnesota trailed by 17 when Towns exited, and with out him, life will solely get more durable for the Timberwolves.

Towns is having a down 12 months statistically as his group is engaged on integrating Gobert. His scoring (21.4 factors per recreation) and rebounding (8.5) are each down meaningfully from the place they have been over the previous few seasons, and his usually stellar capturing has been in a season-long droop. Yet Towns remains to be Minnesota’s second-leading scorer, and the risk he poses as a shooter is what makes Minnesota’s two-big lineups potential.

If Towns does have to miss significant time, the Timberwolves will likely be extra reliant than ever on Gobert and third-year guard Anthony Edwards. This group already ranked twenty sixth in 3-point proportion with Towns within the fold, so scoring with out him will certainly be a problem. The Timberwolves traded for Gobert hoping to make a deep playoff run this season. If Towns is not wholesome, that merely will not be potential. For now, the group can solely hope that he is prevented a prolonged absence.
