John Tortorella doesn’t concur with a few of the Chuck Fletcher criticism
Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia: Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella sicks up for GM Chuck Fletcher for the criticism he’s been talking for stagnating James van Riemsdyk.
“Do you not think he tried to move him? Are you guys kidding me? He tried like hell to move him,” Tortorella stated Saturday following practice. “There are a lot of various situations that went on. I simply don’t get the criticism of James still being here, like Chuck kept him; $7 million , we’ve got to consume a few of the cash, most likely half of it, as I’m sure you people understand.
“Chuck tried. But everybody wants to pile on.”
van Riemsdyk had actually been among the larger names that was still readily available of Friday, and even he was a little stunned he wasn’t moved.
“Definitely, based on what I was hearing, a little bit surprised,” van Riemsdyk stated at his locker stall. “But you ultimately realize, being around long enough, that things go the way they’re going to go. … Nothing’s ever certain until it’s done.”
