Nick Sirianni thought Jalen Hurts 'handled it well' in Eagles' preseason opener against Steelers

Jalen Harms still hasn’t formally been called the beginning quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles yet, although he’s taken each and every single breeze with the first string in training school and the preseason. While Nick Sirianni will not call Harms the starter, the Eagles head coach sounded as if Harms was the QB1 after Thursday’s preseason opener.

Harms was simply 3 of 7 for 54 backyards, however the statistics were tricking. He was afflicted with 2 drops on the opening series and made a couple of great tosses on the run when the pocket collapsed. Harms definitely looked far better than the helter-skelter quarterback the Eagles saw throughout training school.

“I believed he managed it well,” Sirianni stated after the Eagles’ 24-16 preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday night. “He made an actually great check and excellent toss to Dallas [Goedert] for a huge play. He saw what defense was coming and inspected the play. A lots of credit to him for that and making an ideal toss there. I believed he chose where we desired the ball to go versus the defenses they were running. He had a couple drops in there, so I was truly happy with him.”

Harms played simply 10 snaps, and his toss to Goedert was his finest of the night. He simply missed out on Quez Watkins for a 98-yard goal, toppling the rapid receiver by half an action. Harms was smart when the pocket collapsed, purchasing time to discover an open receiver or toss the ball away, offering the Eagles more self-confidence he can be the beginning quarterback moving on.

In spite of the lots of positives for Harms’ efficiency, he is far from pleased with his play.

“There’s constantly space for enhancement. I’m never ever pleased with anything,” Harms stated. “I can’t have balls on the ground. We need to strike our cash balls when we require them. That’s constantly going to be my mindset. Preseason, routine season, whatever it is, we genuinely have a requirement for how we wish to do it. We wish to do it at a high level all the time.

“I suggest, I wish to begin the field and total every pass, rating goals whenever I touch the field. The rival in me resembles, ‘d—.’ However I believe it was an excellent day. I believe it was, you understand, we need to be much better on 3rd down, for sure. However coming out there, for the a lot of part, performing. There’s a lot to gain from that, constantly.”
