Novak Djokovic won his seventh profession Wimbledon title on Sunday, however it does not seem like he will be taking that momentum into tennis’ next Grand Slam. Djokovic mentioned after the win that he likely will not get the COVID-19 vaccination ahead of September’s United States Open.

Currently, Djokovic can’t go into the United States unless he gets immunized versus COVID-19 or gets a medical exemption.

“I’m not vaccinated and I’m not planning to get vaccinated so the only good news I can have is them removing the mandated green vaccine card or whatever you call it to enter United States or exemption,” Djokovic stated. “I don’t know. I don’t think exemption is realistically possible. If that is possibility, I don’t know what exemption would be about.

“I do not understand. I do not have much responses there.”

Djokovic beat Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 on Sunday to record his 4th successive Wimbledon title. The 35-year-old star lost to Rafael Nadal in the 2022 French Open quarterfinal and, prior to that, wasn’t able to complete in the Australian Open due to being deported from the nation upon his arrival as an outcome of his vaccination status.

With no strategies to do what it requires able to complete in the United States Open, which starts on Aug. 29, Djokovic exposed that he isn’t sure when he’ll play competitive tennis next.

“I am on vacation,” Djokovic stated. “Whether or not I’m playing any competition quickly, I’ll certainly be resting for the next couple weeks since it has actually been rather a stressful and requiring duration for me the last couple of months. A great deal of tennis, which I was really pleased about. I got what I desired here.
